The Schenectady Art Society (SAS) was founded in 1967. Our purpose is to encourage local artists by offering collegiality, educational programs, and opportunities to exhibit and sell their work to the community.
Members work in mediums such as watercolor, oil, gouache, pastel, acrylic, charcoal, fabric, etc.
SAS sponsors at least two annual member shows each year in addition to meetings that feature demonstrations and critiques by well-known area artists.
Our meeting site is the First Reformed Church of Scotia located at 224 N. Ballston Ave (Route 50) in Scotia, NY. Meetings occur at 12:30 PM on the 2nd Thursday of the month, six times a year (Sept, Oct, Nov, and Mar, Apr, May).
We often have a summer or fall plein air gathering to paint together and stay in touch between meetings. February we often do a challenge to members to do a daily quick sketch prompted by a subject chosen for the day. These sketches are posted by members to our Facebook page. (For link go to the SAS Links page.)
Please join us for a member meeting to see firsthand the benefits of membership. Guests are welcomed!
