The Schenectady Art Society (SAS) was founded in 1967. Our purpose is to encourage local artists by offering collegiality, educational programs, and opportunities to exhibit and sell sell work to the community.
Members work in mediums such as watercolor, oil, gouache,, pastel, acrylic, charcoal fabric, etc.
SAS sponsors at least two annual member shows each year in addition to meetings that feature demonstrations and critiques by well-know area artists.
Our meeting site is the First Reformed Church of Scotia, located at 224 N. Ballston Ave (Route 50) in Scotia, NY. Meetings are at 12:30 pm on the second Thursday of the month, six times per year (Sept, Oct, Nov, and Mar, Apr, May).
We often have a summer or fall plein air gathering to paint together and stauy in touch between meetings. During February we often do a chjallenge to members to do a daily quick sketch prompted by a subject chosen for the day. These sketches are posted by members to our Facebook page. (Find links on the "Links" page of this website.
